Sensory Shapes!

There are so many ways to learn! While talking about shapes after singing our shapes song, we decided to explore shapes with lots of different senses. We used our hands to touch our shapes and feel the texture of cream. We used our ears to hear the sound the shapes made as we moved them around the table. And we used our sight to watch the shapes transform as we explored them!

Which shape is your favorite?

Wow! This shape feels mushy now!

My shape is flat now!

I made more circles with my circle!

Hmm... I'm not sure about this. I may leave my shape.

Sensory Shapes are FUN!

Here's a piece of my heart!

My triangle made one circle and one rectangle!

Ms. Ashley, what shape is my hand?

Sensory development is key to developing awareness, balance and creativity. Come play with us!

Journal Writing

To practice our fine motor skills, comprehension, artistic skills, and use our imagination, we often let our littles write in their own personal journal. They choose what to write, what mediums to use, and they get to share their stories with friends!
Check it out!

Red and Yellow are Contrasting Colors! Can you guess what my journal entry is about?

The letter of the week is "P" so I chose PURPLE!

Orange is the color of my favorite fruit, oranges! :)

Trees are SO TALL!

PINK UNICORNS!

Red is ROJO, and we read a story about a red dog!

We love to see the confidence that activities such as this can bring. They become more proficient in their public speaking skills, learn new words from others and feel acceptance from the group!

We can't wait for another journal day!

Healthy Infants

To wrap up our Fitness Fanatics month, we created a healthy food bin for our older infants to explore and we read stories about healthy foods to our youngest infants!

This activity builds fine motor/grasping skills, uses visuals to assist with memory development and promotes healthy early habits!

YUM! Tomatoes, onions and cheese! That makes spaghetti!

Reading to infants fosters attachment to caregiver and builds early language development and memory processing. Thank you, Ms. Krystal!

One to One Correspondence

When learning math concepts, child care providers often focus on counting. Counting teaches children to memorize the number words in the correct order (one, two, three, four, five...).

One-to-one correspondence is the concept that children have the ability to count a number of objects accurately. A child that understands one-to-one correspondence knows that 2 apples = 2 or that 5 cars = 5.

Many young children have mastered the memorization of the numbers in order, but sometimes do not comprehend one-to-one correspondence. For example, when counting 5 cars, a child might say “1,2,3,4,5" but skip one of the cars. Or, they may count a car twice. Within our program, children are given many opportunities to master this concept.

How many chairs can you count?

Three chairs!

How many bears can you count?

Three Bears!

How many cards can you count? Six Cards!

Ms. Alex demonstrating the hand to eye coordination that assists with one to one correspondence.

I can't wait to count the chairs at my house!

Pet Care

As part of our Fitness Fanatics theme for January, we also incorporate personal care and wellness. Since AoILV are such animal lovers, we decided to have a discussion on pet care and grooming! Shout out to the Sumner County Humane Society and our local Pet Supplies Plus for sharing easy grooming tips!

Brush front to back!

Watch out for the eyes!

Give them treats as rewards for sitting still!

Bearded Dragons just need lots of love and TLC!

So cool! The kids thought it was a dinosaur!

Thank you Pet Supplies Plus!

Are you SURE that's not a dinosaur??

We loved getting groomed!

We can't wait for you to come back!

National Spaghetti Day

Who doesn't love spaghetti??? We clearly do!
We decided to celebrate this delicious dish today for National Spaghetti Day!
We discussed the texture, colors, how it's made, and learned new language to describe the taste. YUMMY!

DELICIOUS!

NOODLES ARE FUNNY!

My favorite was the garlic bread!

All meals are included in our program, and you can tell we have a wonderful Health and Wellness Coordinator from all of these faces!
