Conscious Discipline

At The Academy, we are proudly on the journey to utilizing and implementing Conscious Discipline.

Traditional classrooms run on the "stoplight" or "clipchart" system. Conscious Discipline is an emerging social curriculum that reinforces positive behaviors, creates student confidence and works from a solution focus.

See the diagram below on how Conscious Discipline differs from Traditional classroom discipline.

We will be holding an informational session on Conscious Discipline at our upcoming
OPEN HOUSE September 5th from 1-2 p.m. All are welcome!
Come see what this revolutionary approach is all about and how it prepares your child for their future!

The Power of... SENSORY PLAY!

We are beginning to wrap up our Summer theme and we are making the most of every second! Our final weeks have been all about exploring our senses. We have discovered sensory bins, listened to birds nests, created homemade sensory boards and have brought the outdoors in!

Exploring the senses creates bilateral brain connections and provides optimal stimulation for brain development. Here are a few examples of how we have been exploring the senses!
Tummy Time is perfect for gross motor development and feeling different textures!

While scooping in our outdoor construction sensory bin, she said "I can hear the birds and smell our lunch cooking!"

Sensory Bags are a great way to introduce infants to new things. He's checking out a few leaves we found on a nature walk!

The Power of... OUTDOOR PLAY!

As we continue our Summer Power of Play Theme, we explored the GREAT OUTDOORS while we had a little (not too hot) sunshine! We decided to shake it up a little and take our art center outdoors. We painted with our feet, flyswatters and we even painted stones to brighten up our space!

Look at those large gross motor skills at work!

Look how high my arm can reach! I'm stretching as I paint!

Art provides creative expression for display!

Concentration Skills are KEY when creating art!
